3 weird things to do at the Ripley’s Aquarium

3. Have a birthday party

Normally, the aquarium hosts birthday parties for little kids, but how funny would it be to surprise your buddy Jake with a surprise 34th birthday party, decorated with mock-Finding Nemo posters and juice boxes rather than jello shooters?

Runs: weekends, 10 am to noon, 12:30-3:30 pm, 3-5 pm

Cost: $500 and up

2. Bring your date

If your Tinder date’s going well and you don’t want it to end, why not pop by the aquarium to check out some fish together. The place is open late (until 11 most days, call ahead to make sure), and the price of admission is less after 7. Just don’t tell her you’re cheaping out and maybe you can sneak a kiss near the jellyfish.

Runs: 7 pm to close

Cost: $24.98 per person, buy tickets in advance

1. Aquarium yoga

First, there was hot yoga, then somewhere along the way, naked yoga (not sure if they ever did naked hot yoga?) but now there’s aquarium yoga, thanks to Ripley’s. Yoga at the Aquarium is paused for the winter, but the administration expects to relaunch it in the spring. It ain’t cheap, people – an eight-pass class is $160, there are no showers and no mat rentals. But it would be pretty cool to be in the midst of the serenity of sea creatures and in an undersea-like atmosphere during your practice.

Runs: Tuesdays from 7 to 8 am, spring 2016

Cost: $160 for 8 classes (no single-class passes)

Erin Cardone: Born on the Prairies, Erin Cardone grew up knowing there was more to life than canola fields and AAA Alberta Angus. So she escaped, living in Europe and Australia, white-knuckling it through plates of calf brains and raw horse meat, and learning languages she can't remember anymore. After a stint as a jaded, skeptical journalist, she changed tack and began writing rather awesome blogs and showing businesses that advertising is dead, so long live social media, with her businesses Legendary Social Media. She now splits her time between various Canadian cities, Costa Rica and wherever else the wind blows.
