Whether it was a bad few days at work, a breakup, or a fight with your bff, sometimes we all just need some time on the couch. Taking time out for ourselves is always a great answer, but too much chill time isn’t good for anyone. Rehab mode of watching our favourite shows while eating some ice cream is cool for a bit, but eventually, you gotta get back to adulting.
Here are 4 easy things to do to boost your productivity.
Leave the house
Step one is making it so retreating and being a hermit in your hobbit-hole isn’t an option anymore. Go out with a friend or two, schedule an event, go to a knitting circle – anything, just get yourself out of the house. When you’re out and about you’ll immediately feel energized and think about all the things you want to do again. Home is great, but home is where you’re supposed to shut down and sleep at the end of a long night, not where 100% of your free time should be.
Clean up
It’s easy to be a couch potato when you’re apartment looks like a smelly old burlap sack. We vibe off our environments, and when our environments are cluttered, messy and dirty, they’re ground zero for feelings of inadequacy, laziness and depression. When you clean up, you gain back your agency and feeling of control, and these feelings are step one into being productive again.
Be active
It’s all well and good to say that working out is one of the best and healthiest ways to be productive, but when you’re stuck in the middle of a couch, doing a lap around the block is the very last thing you’ll ever want to do. Instead of that, try with the smallest of small exercises. Do five pushups. Walk up and down some stairs. Lift up a heavy thing. It doesn’t have to be much to start and it doesn’t even have to make you sweat – just let your body get used to the fact that you don’t really want to sit around anymore, and it’ll respond in kind!
Get dressed, even if you are staying home
It’s way easier to be lazy when you’re sitting in your pyjamas. When you’re actually dressed, it’s much easier to get out and do other things!
