Awesome Toronto events happening October 21-23

Halloween is about a week away, so Toronto is throwing a bunch of weird, creepy events this weekend in preparation. Start your free days off with a zombie wrestling match that pits the undead again the (still) living. Then get a little freaky with an amateur strip contest judged by drag queens, followed by a Shakespearean burlesque show to cap it all off on Sunday. Just part of the bizarre lineup of events happening in Toronto this weekend, October 21-23.

Zombie Wrestling

Zombies vs. Humans vs. Mexican Luchadores. Watch the wrestling dead battle against the living in the ring. Pretty great way to celebrate the upcoming arrival of Halloween.

When to go: Friday, 7:30

Where at? The Great Hall, 1087 Queen W

Tickets: $25

Dance Yourself Clean

Feeling the indie dance tunes withdrawls? Here’s your cure: A dance party inspired by the tunes of LCD Soundsystem, CHVRCHES, Miike Snow, Haim, Charli XCX, Empire of The Sun, Purity Ring, Grimes, Cut Copy and tons more.

When to go: Friday, 9 pm

Where at? Lee’s Palace, 529 Bloor

Amateur Strip Contest Judged by Drag Queens

It’s not degrading if there are drag queens involved, right? The term “strip” is getting a wide berth here and there are cash prizes for the winners, as well as for whoever gets the “dishonourable mention” for the night.

When to go: Friday, 10 pm, contest starts at 12:30ish

Where at? The Beaver, 1192 Queen W

Tickets: $5

A Midsummer Night’s Tease Shakespearean burlesque

Halloween is coming up, so things are getting weird in TO. Nerd Girl Burlesque is putting on a Bard-inspired strip tease that includes circus performers, dancers and actors, performing in a vaudevillian style.

When to go: Sunday, 7 pm

Where at? Revival, 783 College

Tickets: $20 in advance, $25 at the door

Born on the Prairies, Erin Cardone grew up knowing there was more to life than canola fields and AAA Alberta Angus. So she escaped, living in Europe and Australia, white-knuckling it through plates of calf brains and raw horse meat, and learning languages she can't remember anymore. After a stint as a jaded, skeptical journalist, she changed tack and began writing rather awesome blogs and showing businesses that advertising is dead, so long live social media, with her businesses Legendary Social Media. She now splits her time between various Canadian cities, Costa Rica and wherever else the wind blows.
