The latest in a series of women-only services coming to Toronto is DriveHer: A taxi service that mirrors Uber, but uses only female drivers and is only for female passengers.
The idea came from Aisha Addo of Mississauga who had heard of several women being concerned for their safety in taxis and Uber rides with male drivers. An uncomfortable situation with a male taxi driver in her own experience was the kickstart to launch the rideshare program.
If everything works out, such as paying the $20,000 licencing fee to the city, undergoing police checks for each driver and making sure all drivers have a $2 million insurance policy, the rideshare could be up and running by August of this year.
No word yet on how the transgender community will handle the gender-based service.
