Art Out and About Toronto – The NYE Countdown Edition

This year, our New Year’s Eve event theme is running. We know time waits for no one, so, whether you’re running to keep up with it, or just running from yourself, we’ve got a countdown of events in store for you! Best part? They’re all under $60 dollahz.
Special request: As our event list is in countdown form, please read it to yourself in your best announcer voice.

TEN!

We lie to you not! The Midnite Run (& Party) lets you pass the night running! A 5K run at the stroke of midnight, followed by a party, how exhilarating! Runners (and non-runner partier-participants) all receive a swag bag, beer, champagne, and post-race hot food.

Cost: $75. Yes, we did lie, this event is not under $60 dollahz, but we only lied once, and were really honest about it.

NINE!

Back in the Day 90’s – A tribute to 90’s old school (21+). I know, we all loathe clubs on NYE (at least I do): Over-priced, over-dressed, and often overly-depressing. But, what better way to run from the impending future than by dipping into the paaaast. Old school hip-hop, r&b, dance, house, reggae, and pop from the 90’s are sure to make your stroll down memory lane a delicious one. That, and the non-pretentious entry cost really make this a sought-after event.

Cost: $29.
Where: 99 Sudbury, 99 Sudbury Street

EIGHT!

You start the night running, but end up crawling, that’s why they crawl it a club crawl, folks. For those who are not familiar with this concept, you hit-up various venues during one night, usually drinking at each one. The dl on the NYE Club Crawl: You get a wristband, go to four top-notch, downtown venues, are transported via a party bus between each venue, don’t deal with any lines and don’t pay any cover.

Cost: $33.90
Where: Starts at Madison Avenue Pub, 14 Madison Avenue, followed by three mystery venues

SEVEN!

Countdown at the Liberty Grand, run by (hosted by) Toronto’s own, Tory Lanez (19+). Top 40, hip-hop, r&b, house; in style.

Cost: $50
Where: Liberty Grand, 25 British Columbia Road

SIX!

New Year’s Eve Quiet Clubbing Rooftop Party at Hemingway’s (19+). It was Hemingway who once said “You learned to run from what you feel, and that’s why you have nightmares”, he also said “A little party never killed nobody.” Actually, Hemingway never said either of those things. But dang, as much as I hate clubs on NYE, I’ve been dying to try these silent parties! You get headphones and have a choice to tune into three different channels of music!

Cost: $15-20
Where: Hemingway’s, 142 Cumberland Street

FIVE!

2017 Countdown All Ages Party. Younger peoples, we did not forget about you, dears. The Rockpile has got what you need. Hip-hop, EDM, club anthems, dancehall and top 40. All-ages events: saving under-age partiers from running from the police since…forever.

Cost: $40
Where: Rockpile, 5555 Dundas Street West

Well that’s enough of my running analogies that are not even analogies. Honestly, I thought I would run out of them (har har har) by SEVEN! But such was not the case.

FOUR!

THAT’S IT! No more clubs (or running analogies not-analogies), I’ve had it! New Year’s Eve House Party at Dublin Calling is your club alternative. Come as you are, drink and play games all night. Pool, ping-bong, darts, skeeball, and best of all, giant jenga.

Cost: $15-30
Where: Dublin Calling, 250 Adelaide Street West

THREE!

Laugh 2016 off, and ring in 2017 laughing! Or as they like to say at Second City, 2016 got you down? Kick it right out the door, and hey, even though it doesn’t rhyme, we agree. Second City’s NYE Featuring Come What Mayhem! Brings you hilarious skewering of the 2016 news cycle with their legendary mainstage ensemble.

Cost: $60 (general admission)
Where: Second City, 51 Mercer Street

TWO!

Yes, NYE is all fun and fete, but it’s important to remember that not everyone is as fortunate, and that some of us cannot pay something under $60 dollahz for one fun-filled night. Good Food for Good lets you lend a hand to our brothers and sisters fallen upon hard times while also enjoying yourself at their Eat 2 Feed T.O | Socially Good Dining Series. On NYE 100% of their profits will be donated to Building Roots.

Building Roots proactively works to bring healthy food to all Toronto neighborhoods. Big up Good Food for Good and Building Roots, keep doing good and building our city! Got really into that, almost forgot to mention a few highlights from their delectable menu: Tempura, African peanut soup, sproutzza, wild mushroom and lentil terrine, crispy duck and more. They definitely deliver the unique gastronomic experience they offer.

Cost: $50-$70
Where: Harvest Kitchen, 124 Harbord Street
Time: 6pm-9pm (if you so desire, you can still hit the streets after dinner).

ONEEEE!

And coming in at number one: The 32nd annual New Year’s Eve at Nathan Phillips Square; cause tradition (and saving money) matters! Join 50,000 other humans for a night of live performances, skating, and dancing as DJ Starting from Scratch spins on the ones and twos, and you freeze both your left and right butt cheeks off.

Cost: FREE!
Where: Nathan Phillips Square, 100 Queen Street West

Nataliya Zlotnikov: There once was a girl named Nataliya. Med school bound, but no loan to be found. She shed more than one tear, 'twas a terrible year. But amidst all her doubt, an idea fluttered out. You adore self expression, let's explore that obsession!
