People who own bar carts are as enviable as Don Draper in Mad Men, pouring expensive scotch from his crystal decanter. Bar carts display gorgeous settings of crystal glasses, chrome ice buckets and elongated spoons, making a rental apartment look like a posh pad.
Whether you want a bar cart to look classy, or just for the convenient wheels and extra storage space, here’s a DIY Ikea hack version that can be done on the cheap, but looks awesome.
- The parts. You’ll need
- Bygel utility cart – $39.99
- Hilver cone-shaped leg x4 – $20.00 each
- Gold spray paint
- Clear lacquer or polyurethane
- Do it. Assemble the bar cart, except for the drawers and shelves. Spray paint any of the metallic areas with the gold spray paint, and let dry. For the wheel, use painter’s tape to block off the wheel itself and paint the metal parts. Then use the lacquer or poly to seal in the gold paint. When that dries, just finish assembling, and you’ve got yourself an apartment-sized bar cart!
