October in Toronto: It’s that time when we all expect a little rain here and there. Problem is, you may not want to sport those ugly black and brown rubber boots that have been taking up space in your coat closet, especially when the rain factor in the forecast is iffy at best. We get it – you’d rather wear something a little more trendy, maybe canvas shoes like Toms. Problem is, if it does rain, you’re left with cold, wet toes all day, right?
Wrong! Because some genius figured out that you can waterproof your canvas shoes easily and on the cheap with beeswax!
Basically, you’ll slip into some gloves and grab a chunk of beeswax (you can buy it at several places in Toronto, such as The Bee Shop at 1340 Bloor, or online for about $10) and a blow dryer. Soften the wax with the blow dryer, then, with gloves on, rub the beeswax all over your shoes. They’ll look nasty.
Now set the blow dryer to a high temperature and blow dry the shoes until the beeswax melts into the material and becomes invisible. Test with a few drops of water, and you’re good to go!
