Awesome Toronto events happening August 5-7

Got Pokemon Go fever? Good for you, because there are not one, but two Pokemon-themed dance parties happening this weekend – one on Friday, one on Saturday. Plus, there’s a bike rave on Friday if staring at your phone all night isn’t your thing. Then, check out the all-DJ all day Time Festival happening at Fort York on Saturday. All part of the fun and games happening in Toronto this weekend, August 5-7.

I Choose You Pokemon Dance Party

We should have seen it coming. A Pokemon-inspired dance party is coming to TO. Because nothing says party like a bunch of 20-year-old zombies walking around with their noses to their phones, bumping into street poles and falling off their skateboards. This thriller of a dance party has Pokemon-themed drinks and decorations, and is giving out prizes for the best costumes and Pokemon Go references. Can’t make it on Friday? Worry not, Pokezombies! There’s another party just like it at Studio Bar on Saturday.

When to go: Friday, 10:30 pm-2 am

Where at? Adelaide Hall, 250 Adelaide W

Tickets: $5 in advance from here

DIY Bike Rave

Load up on glow sticks and meet under the Eastern Ave overpass for a bike rave that’ll tour around the city a bit. Bring a speaker or something, lights and glow sticks, water, friends and snacks, and get together with a bunch of fellow ravers for a random outdoor party on two wheels.

When to go: Friday, 8 pm

Where at? Underpass Skate Park, under the Eastern Ave overpass, which is under the bridge south of King Street E.

Tickets: admission is free

Time Festival at Fort York

A rather awesome music festival with DJs and tons of dancing in a historic setting. Time Festival runs all day with two stages, featuring TOKiMONSTA, Everything Everything, Run the Jewels, Broods, Kehlani, KiNK, Jacques Greene and more. It’s an all-ages thing.

When to go: Saturday, noon

Where at? Fort York Garrison Common

Tickets: $20

Lion Awareness Day

Yes, this is for kids, but who cares? Lions are dope. So go check them out at the Toronto Zoo and support lion conservation with a silent auction, lion games, lion merch and more.

When to go: Sunday, 11 am-4 pm

Where at? Toronto Zoo Lion Viewing Area

Tickets: just pay Toronto Zoo admission

Erin Cardone: Born on the Prairies, Erin Cardone grew up knowing there was more to life than canola fields and AAA Alberta Angus. So she escaped, living in Europe and Australia, white-knuckling it through plates of calf brains and raw horse meat, and learning languages she can't remember anymore. After a stint as a jaded, skeptical journalist, she changed tack and began writing rather awesome blogs and showing businesses that advertising is dead, so long live social media, with her businesses Legendary Social Media. She now splits her time between various Canadian cities, Costa Rica and wherever else the wind blows.
