It’s Valentine’s Day on Sunday, so of course there are some cheesy, romantic events going on this weekend in Toronto. But there are also some bizarre and strange ones, like chicken and waffles paired with booze and a geeky film festival, plus some famous cellists who play Michael Jackson. All part of the Valentine’s Day weekend events happening in Toronto, February 12-14.

40oz and Waffles

Boozy cupcakes, grits, waffles and fried chicken – all part of a complete breakfast. 40oz and Waffles started out in LA as a Sunday Funday brunch thing, but Toronto’s taking its own twist on the thing, plus adding a hint of romance (chocolate-covered strawberries!).

2CELLOS

Listening to cellists may not be your idea of a wicked Saturday night, but 2CELLOS might just change your mind. Seriously, check out this vid of them absolutely slaying Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson. The two guys play anything from classical to pop, rock, showtunes and more, and it’s all kind of cool, actually.

Tinder’s been fun, but those witty hellos that turned into months of mundane chats aren’t producing results. Improv Your Acting is putting on two Valentine’s weekend events to get singles to meet in person because the best way to make someone love you for who you really are, is to meet them while acting. It’s an improv acting class with cash bar and an intro to swing dancing lesson.

When to go: straight singles, Saturday, 7 pm; LGBT singles, Sunday, 7 pm

Where at? Improv Your Acting Studio for the Performing Arts, 410 Dundas E

Erin Cardone: Born on the Prairies, Erin Cardone grew up knowing there was more to life than canola fields and AAA Alberta Angus. So she escaped, living in Europe and Australia, white-knuckling it through plates of calf brains and raw horse meat, and learning languages she can't remember anymore. After a stint as a jaded, skeptical journalist, she changed tack and began writing rather awesome blogs and showing businesses that advertising is dead, so long live social media, with her businesses Legendary Social Media. She now splits her time between various Canadian cities, Costa Rica and wherever else the wind blows.
