Awesome Toronto events happening October 2-4

It’s not summer anymore and it’s not Halloween yet, but there are some pretty cool events happening in Toronto this weekend, from attempts at ghost-summoning to cyclist mayhem at TO’s neglected amusement park. Here are a few things to check out in Toronto this weekend, October 2-4.

Kensington Krawl Food Tour

It’s been happening every Friday and Saturday here in TO since, well, I don’t know, but the Kensington Krawl happens again this weekend, and is a pretty awesome way for fellow food-obsessed culture addicts to check out some of the coolest eateries in Kensington Market. Frankly, you could do a self-guided tour, but these guys will hook you up with meet-and-greets with chefs and shopkeepers, and give you a historical rundown of the neighbourhood.

When to go: Friday and Saturday, 11:30 am

Where at? Meet up at Baldwin at Spadina

Tickets: $60

Red Bull Race the Place

Any Red Bull-sponsored adrenaline event gets a virtual high-five from me, so checking out the Race the Place this year would be no exception. This one kicked off last year and is for hardcore cyclists only, who will put their balance and balls to the test as they race through white-knuckle turns and bottlenecks on a 3.4 km course at Ontario Place. If that doesn’t sound like something you’d want to take on yourself, stop by to watch the insanity.

When to go: Saturday, 8 am-6 pm for participants, 11 am-6 pm for observers

Where at? Ontario Place, 955 Lake Shore Blvd W

Tickets: $45 to participate, free to watch

Toronto Vintage Clothing Show

With the promise of vintage Chanel handbags on sale, the The Vintage Clothing Show will likely be on the books for the majority of Toronto women who believe in classic charm and the timelessness of old-world fashion. Clothes and accessories are just part of the deal – there are antiques for sale there too.

When to go: Saturday 10 am-5 pm and Sunday 10 am-4 pm

Where at? Queen Elizabeth Building at Exhibition Place, 180 Princes’ Blvd.

Tickets: admission is free

Seance with Nicholas Wallace

http://www.theseance.ca/

The “Canadian Champion of Magic” Nick Wallace is holding a seance and someone from the audience will be the medium. Wallace is a Toronto-based illusionist who’s earned kudos from the Toronto Sun, the London (Ontario) Fringe and the like, and in his Seance performance, he’s apparently going to actually try to communicate with spirits.

When to go: Friday 7:30 pm and Saturday, 7:30 pm and 10:30 pm

Where at? Theatre Passe Muraille, 16 Ryerson Ave.

Tickets: $30-$35

Erin Cardone: Born on the Prairies, Erin Cardone grew up knowing there was more to life than canola fields and AAA Alberta Angus. So she escaped, living in Europe and Australia, white-knuckling it through plates of calf brains and raw horse meat, and learning languages she can't remember anymore. After a stint as a jaded, skeptical journalist, she changed tack and began writing rather awesome blogs and showing businesses that advertising is dead, so long live social media, with her businesses Legendary Social Media. She now splits her time between various Canadian cities, Costa Rica and wherever else the wind blows.
