More important than Christmas to some, Toronto Beer Week showcases the city’s best craft beers for the enjoyment of bearded and unbearded craft beer connoisseurs alike. 70 participating venues across the city have loaded up the kegs and many have some good eats to go along with the suds.

Tickets: admission is free

Oktoberfest

http://www.torontooktoberfest.ca/

Don’t let that lederhosen you wore for Halloween three years ago go to waste. It’s Oktoberfest in Toronto, and you know what that means: das boot, girls in dirndls, weird music and really drunk people attempting to do traditional German dancing, and making weak attempts at pronouncing German words like Unabhaengigkeitserklaerungen (declarations of independence – we’re helping you hone your Deutsche skills!).

When to go: Friday, the tapping of the keg (19+) 6-11 pm; Saturday (all ages) 11:30 am-4:30 pm; Sunday Ein Prosit closing party (19+) 6-11 pm

Where at? Ontario Place, 955 Lake Shore Blvd. W

Tickets: Saturday, $22; Friday and Sunday, $25 and up

Riot Fest

Hello, Wu-Tang! Riot Fest is loud, crazy and quirky, and headlined not only by the Wu-Tang Clan, but also The Prodigy, Rancid, Alexisonfire, Cancer Bats, the Joy Formidable, the Eagles of Death Metal and Tyler, the Creator. Riot Fest adds carnival rides and circus-style sideshow performers to the mix.

When to go: Saturday and Sunday, noon to midnight

Where at? Downsview Park, 35 Carl Hall Rd

Tickets: starting at $89.98

Toronto Urban Roots Fest

Hipsters, unite! Wilco’s coming to town to headline the Toronto Urban Roots Fest (TURF) along with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, Of Monsters and Men, The Pixies, Rich Aucoin, Royal Canoe, Elliott Brood and a personal guilty pleasure, Cake. (Come on, Short Skirt/Long Jacket? Amazing tune!). At last check, single-day tickets were still available, but going fast.

When to go: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 1 pm-11 pm

Where at? Fort York Garrison Common National Historic Site, 250 Fort York Blvd

Tickets: starting at $89.50

Erin Cardone: Born on the Prairies, Erin Cardone grew up knowing there was more to life than canola fields and AAA Alberta Angus. So she escaped, living in Europe and Australia, white-knuckling it through plates of calf brains and raw horse meat, and learning languages she can't remember anymore. After a stint as a jaded, skeptical journalist, she changed tack and began writing rather awesome blogs and showing businesses that advertising is dead, so long live social media, with her businesses Legendary Social Media. She now splits her time between various Canadian cities, Costa Rica and wherever else the wind blows.
