Done right, wood is one of those things that can take your Toronto apartment from Vanilla Ice to Kanye pretty easily. This Ikea hack helps you Kanye your bathroom by adding a pimp wooden surround on your bathtub.
The parts. You’ll need:
- Ekbacken countertop, or other Ikea countertop, enough to cover the front of your bathtub x2 – $60.00 each
- Saw
- Screws
- Drill
- Wood glue
Do it.
The first thing to keep in mind is that you’re going to want to NOT destroy your bathtub while doing this so you don’t have to replace it when you move out.
The second thing is to measure the design out first before you start, as some smaller bathrooms might not support an addition like this.
Your first step is to measure out whether your bathroom can support a step up to the bathtub, similar to what you see in the original blog. A standard riser is 10” deep, by about 7” high. If it’s going to work in your bathroom, measure and cut out a riser from one of the two countertop pieces.
If not, you’ll probably only need one piece of countertop.
If you’re making a step, you’ll also need three or four 2x12s cut to support the step, see this as an example.
