Toronto is filled with unique and independent coffee shops. We’re definitely a city that loves a great caffeine fix and are blessed by a massive supply of great indie coffee shops.
The problem (if you can call it that) is that with so many great shops to stop for a fix, which are the best?
It’s hard to narrow down, but here are three of our faves:
De Mello Palheta Coffee Roasters
After naming their establishment after a historic coffee purveyor, the owners of this fine café have truly made something authentic and special. Nestled in a small space at 2489 Yonge, this café is a unique experience that is informed by all the latest coffee techniques from one of the coffee capitals of the world – Melbourne, Australia. With a wide range of unusual and unique brewing equipment, you’re sure to find a drink you’ll like at a reasonable price. If you’re looking for an artisan cup of coffee at any time of day, this is a great option!
Pilot Coffee Roasters
Located in a great space at 50 Wagstaff Dr, this space combines all kinds of amenities, such as a roasting space, a laboratory, a distribution centre and, especially, a café. Pilot truly loves coffee and it’s shown over and over again by everything in this luxurious, trendy space. Their devotion to the craft is exceptional, and they have a Modbar espresso machine – of which only twenty worldwide were ever made, and they have the only one in Canada. Coffee prices are absolutely reasonable, with espresso costs being in the $3 range, and their signature blends are sure to please even the most discerning coffee enthusiast.
Reunion Island
This bright, airy, cheerful space is a fantastic option to get coffee on Roncesvalles. It provides some of the best coffee in town, with a space that’s perfectly suited for getting work done of any kind. With their sophisticated brewing equipment and talented staff members, getting anything from a simple cup of joe to an elaborate and sparkly Cold Coffee (all the rage nowadays, especially in the summer!), Reunion island is more than capable of serving what you need! On top of that, all of their delicious baked goods come from the nearby bakery, Bunner’s, which provides the gluten-free and vegan options, and The Tempered Room and La Bamboche. It also has really nice bench seating outside to boot!
